Profile: A Specialty Retail Business

AutoNation, Inc. (NYSE: AN) is America's largest Automotive Retailer. Headquartered in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., AutoNation employs approximately 25,000 people at 245 dealership locations representing 323 new vehicle franchises across 16 states. With about $18 billion in annual revenue, AutoNation ranked #122 on the 2007 Fortune 500 and is America's "Most Admired Automotive Retailer" five out of the last six years, outselling all other automotive retailers in the U.S.  AutoNation is a member of the S&P 500.  In March 2007, AutoNation sold its 6 millionth vehicle, the only auto retailer to achieve this milestone.



Each AutoNation-owned dealership is a specialty retail business that draws its sales and profits from a diverse mix of retail-related activities. They include:

New Vehicles - About 59% of an automotive dealership's revenue comes from its sales of new vehicles. AutoNation retailed $11.5 billion of new vehicles in 2005-- more than any other single retailer. In all, AutoNation sells vehicles from 37 different manufacturer brands.

Used Vehicles - About 23% of an automotive dealership's revenue comes from its sales of used vehicles. AutoNation sold $4.4 billion worth of used vehicles in 2005 -- more than any other single retailer.

Parts and Service - About 14% of an automotive dealership's revenue comes from servicing vehicles, selling vehicle parts and performing collision repairs and other body work. AutoNation is America's largest provider of factory-authorized vehicle parts and services, generating $2.6 billion of parts and service revenue in 2005 - more than any other single retailer.

Finance and Insurance - About 3% of an automotive dealership's revenue comes from the origination of vehicle financing through third parties and through the sale of insurance and warranty products.
